LUSAS Modeller memory allocation

Note that you can check how much virtual memory Modeller is using by looking at the process “Lusas_M.exe” in Task Manager as shown below:

This shows that Modeller has allocated 1,169,244KB of virtual memory (VM Size or Commit Size consisting of RAM and pagefile), that there is currently 142,532KB in RAM "Mem Usage" and that Modeller's peak usage of RAM for this session was 577,752KB ("Peak Mem Usage").

You can check how much virtual memory Modeller is using via Help>About LUASAS Modeller as shown below:

This shows that Modeller has allocated 1,640.0MB of virtual memory in this case and there there is 1431.9MB free potentially available for Modeller to grab and use on this PC ath this time.

Memory allocated to Modeller array (NLPZ)

It is generally recommended that the NLPZ setting is not changed from its installation default setting.   If adjustment should become necessary, NLPZ may be set in a Modeller start-up file with guidance from Support@lusas.com.

With default installation settings for V15, Modeller grabs two contiguous 300MB blocks of virtual memory when it starts up.  One block is used immediately and the other is reserved for use later (NLPZ), for post-processing for example.  This amount may be different for earlier version of LUSAS.  If Modeller needs more, it will grab more of the available virtual memory.  If Modeller runs out of memory, then the user will encountered a Memory Allocation Failure dialog which explains how much memory is in use, how much is available and how much more Modeller had tried to grab which was unsuccessful.  The user will be able at this point to try closing other applications, and there is a button to "Release reserved memory . . ." that Modeller had allocated for the purposes of post-processing.  This may just free up enough memory for Modeller to be able to continue.  If there are simply not enopugh resources for Modeller to continue then Modeller will be forced to stop running.

If you encounter any memory related problems, or if you are using V14.7 or an earlier version of LUSAS, please email your model file ".mdl" and a screenshot of any error message encountered along with a description of the action you were performing in Modeller (for example a geometry operation, meshing or using Graph Wizard to plot results) to Support@lusas.com for advice.

Memory allocated to Modeller cache (NPGS)

It is generally recommended that the NPGS setting is not changed from its installation default setting.  If adjustment should become necessary, NPGS may be set in a Modeller start-up file with guidance from Support@lusas.com.
