Where to locate temporary files

You should specify a disk drive and/ or folder which is:

  • On a local, rather than a network drive. Reasons for using local drives
  • Available to all users as read/ write access (i.e. do not use personal profile areas or administrator-only folders)
  • A folder that exists and has no size restrictions imposed.  You may create a new "dedicated" folder using Windows Explorer.

In order to get the best performance from your PC the folder would ideally be on a drive with plenty of free space available.

Depending on how many local drives are in use on the PC and their capacities, it may be advantageous to locate temporary files on a different local drive from the PC virtual memory ("page/ swap files"), and on a different local drive from where you store any large models and results files.
