Improvements and New Facilities in Version 14.3

Fleshing of arbitrary cross-sections

  • Arbitrary cross-sections drawn and added to the local (user) or server (all users) libraries by using the arbitrary section property calculator can now have their true section shape visualised (fleshed) once assigned to beams in the model.

Fibre locations for arbitrary cross-sections

  • Fibre locations, as used when viewing results, are calculated automatically by the arbitrary section calculator for extreme positions in each quadrant of the drawn cross-section. Additional fibre locations can be defined by entering coordinates with reference to the initial drawn cross-section.

Eigenvalue results in reports

A new page on the Chapters dialog of the Report Wizard enables eigenvalue result entities to be written to a report. Once the chapter for eigenvalue results is created, the entities appear in the Report Treeview. Eigenvalue result entities can be added or removed from this Treeview using the Modify context menu for the chapter.

Step Interface

A STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product data) import facility has been added. Use the File > Import menu item to import a file.

Precast Beam library extended:

The following beams have been added to the supplied precast beam library:

Canada Standard Prestressed Concrete 'I' beams type 1 to 7

Texas Department of Transportation Prestressed Concrete 'I' beams A, B, C, IV and VI

New vehicle loadings

South Africa highway vehicles are now supplied for use as static loads within LUSAS and for use with the Vehicle Load Optimisation facility which, with the use of the Autoloader option, will provide worst-case loading positions to the South African TMH7 code of practice.

Chinese Prestress

Single tendon prestress and multiple tendon prestress to JTG D62-2004 have been added. The English language version of the single tendon prestress dialog is shown opposite.

Documentation

  • All relevant documentation has been updated for this new release and is provided in PDF format on the V14.3 software or as part of any V14.3 software download file. Changes of note include:

Element Reference

Element selection is now made easier by the provision of element summary and element index data tables in both the Element Reference on-line help and printed documentation. These tables provide additional levels of general element information to aid in choosing an element for a particular modelling task.

Changes to Worked Examples:

The Arbitrary Section Property Calculation example has been updated to correctly group the internal void into a group called Holes, and has also been lengthened to explain visualisation and creation of fibre definitions.

Changes to Application Examples (Bridge, Civil & Structural)

The Simple Slab Deck example has been updated to include an additional support condition to prevent a warning message from appearing and the mid-span position of the upper lane loading has been correctly defined.

The Importing DXF Data example has had the Merge option removed. When importing DXF files (and other CAD data) LUSAS Modeller now automatically merges-out coincident points.
