LUSAS User Group Meeting

LUSAS for Structural and Bridge Applications Training Course

Dublin, Republic or Ireland, 18 and 19-20 May 2010

A one-day LUSAS User Group Meeting followed by a two-day LUSAS for Structural and Bridge Applications Training Course will take place at Camden Court Hotel, Dublin, Republic of Ireland on 18 and 19-20 May 2010.
  • Come along to the User Group Meeting to see new features in LUSAS software for use in your office and to discuss your general modelling and analysis issues with LUSAS staff and fellow LUSAS users and engineers in an informal environment.
  • Attend either one or both days of the training course to learn how to use LUSAS or to improve your existing knowledge of the software and use it more efficiently.

LUSAS Ireland User Group Meeting - 18 May 2010

At this one-day user group meeting, presentations will be given on the latest facilities and key features in LUSAS version 14.3 and 14.4 that can be of use to you for structural and bridge analysis in your design office or university.

Topics covered are expected to include:

  • General New Features in LUSAS 14.4 and 14.5
  • Vehicle Load Optimisation including requirements for Eurocode
  • Eurocode implications for Steel Buckling analysis
  • Techniques for the analysis of Reinforced Concrete
  • Post-Tensioning and Time-Stage Techniques including new 14.4 tools
  • Dynamic considerations in bridge and building structures
  • New Internal Results Processing in LUSAS 14.4 (this allows the creation of users expressions for inclusion in reports and contouring on models)
  • CAD Import/Export and Solid Modelling/Meshing in LUSAS
  • Specific Ground Engineering facilities
  • Customisation of the LUSAS User Interface. Creation of dialogs / toolbars and basic scripting routines.

Come along to see the features in LUSAS software for these applications and to discuss your general modelling and analysis issues with myself, LUSAS staff and fellow LUSAS users and engineers in an informal environment.

Attendance at the LUSAS Ireland User Group Meeting is free but requires you to register in advance to reserve your place.

Yes please, I'd like to register to attend the LUSAS Ireland User Group Meeting

  • If you or any of your colleagues would like to attend this event please register your interest by emailing me at ian.mason@lusas.com. I will then reserve you a place and advise you further.

LUSAS for Structural and Bridge Applications (Introduction) Training Course
19 and 20 May 2010

This course, presented with all new course notes, is for engineers with little or no prior knowledge of LUSAS or for those wanting to refresh their knowledge of carrying out linear static and linear buckling analysis for structural and bridge applications. The course covers getting started with LUSAS and then proceeds to cover in detail the modelling and analysis options available for creating beam models, modelling flat slabs, composite construction, 3D modelling, and in correctly applying the various types of bridge and structural loading available.

You can choose to attend one or both days.

Day 1: Structural and bridge application modelling

Topics covered will be selected from the following:

  • About LUSAS, finite element analysis, geometry, attributes, the LUSAS treeview, section property calculators, viewing results, documentation, sources of help
  • Getting more out of beam models, tapering sections, discrete loads and moving loads, temperature effects, settlement of supports, enveloping and smart combinations, report writer, obtaining natural frequencies
  • Flat slabs, construction options/ classification, analysis options, isotropic slabs, plate models, grillage analogy, orthotropic slabs, multicellular slabs, shear key / box beam
  • Beam and slab construction, construction options/ classification, analysis options, mixing elements, ordinary beams with top slab, box beams with top slab
  • 3D modelling, plate girder modelling, CAD import, accuracy of FE analysis, interpolation and mesh refinement, element shapes, mesh patterns, surface and volume meshing, linear buckling analysis, basic checklist
  • Bridge loading, principles and use of the vehicle load optimisation facility, wheel loads

(use for booking either a 1 or 2 day course)

Day 2: Advanced structural and bridge application modelling

Topics covered will be selected from the following:

  • Advanced analysis control
  • Understanding nonlinear analysis
  • Geometric nonlinear analysis
  • Nonlinear materials
  • Plate girder buckling
  • Staged construction modelling
  • Techniques available for complex bridge construction
  • Using LUSAS to model soil structure interaction

Attendance at this Training Course costs Euro 350 for attending one day or Euro 600 for attending both days and requires you to complete a booking form to reserve your place. Attendance includes course handouts, use of hardware, and refreshments. Discounts are available for academic institutions.

(use for booking either a 1 or 2 day course)

I hope you will be able to attend for what should be a very informative user group meeting and a very useful and detailed application specific training course.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Mason
