LUSAS plugin for Grasshopper

Release history

LUSAS Grasshopper plugin

V3.0.0 - made available for download on 22 December 2025

New features

  • Retrieving results from LUSAS in Grasshopper is now possible with the new components. This also makes optimisation processes using tools like Galapagos possible.
  • Loads can be assigned to a range of loadcases to aid with staged construction analyses using the new Assignment scope component.
  • Beam/shell slice utilities can be created using the new dedicated component.

New components

  • Assignment scope - Enables all existing LUSAS options for load assignment (loadcase range, analysis etc)
  • Beam/shell slice resultants - Creates beam/shell slice resultants utilities.
  • Solve - Solves any number of analyses in a linked LUSAS model.
  • Mesh results - Retrieves results for specific nodes/elements from a linked LUSAS model.
  • Member results - Retrieves results for members created in Grasshopper.
  • Eigenvalue results - Retrieves results from eigenvalue analyses.
  • Beam/shell slice results - Retrieves results for beam/shell slice resultants utilities created in Grasshopper.

V2.0.0 - made available for download on 7 April 2025

New features

  • Open models in LUSAS can be updated in real time with the modifications in the Grasshopper script without having to restart LUSAS or make a new model with the 'Live link' component.
  • Structural members can be added to groups.

New components

  • Live link - Enable live updates between Grasshopper and a running instance of LUSAS.
  • Custom attribute - Create any LUSAS attribute by providing the LPI commands that define it
  • Refer attribute - Refer to an attribute that exists in the LUSAS model.
  • Gravity - Add gravity loads to analyses/loadcases.

Other improvements

  • Library section component supports precast sections.
  • NURBS surfaces with poles can be exported with adequate subdivisions.
  • Previously released example scripts have been enhanced.
  • New scripts provided to create models of a cooling tower, geodesic roof, mobius strip, spherical tank, and a twin girder bridge with vehicle load optimisation.

V1.0.0.2 - made available for download on 24 December 2024

  • This initial release allows creation of structural models for LUSAS using dedicated Grasshopper components that enable the definition of attributes such as materials, sections, loads, supports, and more.
  • Example scripts create models of a curved girder bridge, tub girder, network tied-arch bridge, twisting tower, and a U-frame bridge.
