Reducing file sizes in solution of an eigenvalue analysis

  1. Reducing the number of modes is the most effective way of reducing file sizes

  2. If a large number of modes are required, then it is possible to use the eigenvalue range facility and obtain the eigenvalues in two runs - combining them together later in Modeller

  3. Guyan reduction could be used to eliminate modes that are of little consequence to the calculations. There is an example in the Verification Manual that can be found in the LUSAS installation directory in the location C:\LUSAS15x\Programs\PDF_Manuals.

  4. For reference, option 230 suppresses the stress calculations for eigenvalue analyses - this is only viable if no further processing of the eigenvalue results is to be carried out (e.g. no use of IMD facilities)
