Typical warning message from LUSAS Solver text output file (*.OUT):

***WARNING*** ELEMENT INITIAL CURVATURE IS TOO SEVERE

Elements must not be excessively curved. A warning will be invoked (but the analysis will continue) if the element curvature is not in accordance with the following inequalities:

ABS ( S1 - S2 ) / ( S1 + S2 ) <= 0.05

( S1 + S2 ) / S3 <= 1.02

Where the function ABS returns the absolute value of the arguments.  The remedy is to model the curve with more elements.

The reason for the presence of such a check in LUSAS is related to both the evaluation of the Jacobian matrix as well as the general issues of element quality.
