LUSAS Technical Seminar

"New facilities for the design of bridges and other structures"

Vantaa, Helsinki, Finland

19 November 2014 from 9.00am - 1pm

The event partners are pleased to announce that a half-day Seminar on "New facilities for the design of bridges and other structures" will take place in Vantaa (near Helsinki), Finland, on 19 November 2014.

This event will show how a selection of key new facilities in LUSAS version 15, which improve and extend the modelling, design and analysis capabilities available, can be of use to you in your work.

Come along to learn about the latest methods for modelling concrete, steel, and composite/ integral structures, and to discuss your general modelling and analysis issues with LUSAS users and other engineers, scientists, researchers and students in a relaxed, informal environment.

Organisation

This half-day event is organised and presented jointly by:

  • Mr Pertti Rytky, Managing Director of Cimera Oy.
  • Mr Philip Icke, European Regional Manager, LUSAS, UK.
  • Mr Steve Rhodes, Principal Bridge Engineer, LUSAS, UK.

Technical Seminar: 19 November 2014

See below for link to the Booking Form.

Working Agenda

Session

Session Times

Topics
  8.30 - 9.00 Registration
  9.00 - 9.05 Welcome and Introduction

Pertti Rytky, Cimera Oy and Philip Icke, LUSAS

1 9.05 - 9.25 Easy to use lift-off supports and reinforced concrete slab design to Finnish code
  • A simple bridge model is used to show the use of the multiple analysis facility, the use of lift-off supports, and slab design available in Version 15.0 of LUSAS, showing bar reinforcement detailis and crack checking based on SFS-EN 1992-2/NA:2010.

Steve Rhodes, LUSAS

2 9.25 - 9.45 Cable tuning analysis for linear structures
  • For many structures it is vital control the deflected shape during construction or under imposed loading. The cable tuning analysis facility is used to calculate cable forces in a cable stayed footbridge to meet a user defined pre-cambered profile, as well as limiting the main tower displacement and bending moment to acceptable values.

Steve Rhodes, LUSAS

  9.45 - 10.15 Refreshment Break
3 10.15 - 10.45 Traffic Load Optimisation for beams.
  • A review of  the techniques available in LUSAS for carrying out influence analysis and the use of the new Direct Method, combined with the traffic load optimisation tool to create Eurocode traffic design loads on a line beam model of an arch bridge.

Steve Rhodes, LUSAS

4 10.45 - 12:00

Integral bridges and the modelling of soil-structure interaction

  • The new tri-linear (active/passive) earth pressure joint material in V15.0 of LUSAS simplifies the modelling of soil-structure interaction problems such as the design of integral bridges, retaining walls, and other structures.. Both ground and structure can be modelled in a single model, allowing upper and lower bound values to be investigated.

Steve Rhodes, LUSAS

5 12.00 - 12.30 Forthcoming new facilites in V15.1 of LUSAS
  • An overview of the new features and facilities to be released in LUSAS Version 15.1

Philip Icke, LUSAS

6 12:30 - 13:00 Open discussion group on existing facilities and desired future developments
  • Any questions or comments from what you have seen, from what you are using, and what would you like to see in future releases.

Chaired by Philip Icke, LUSAS

13:00 Lunch for all delegates in the restaurant.

Costs:

  • Course costs includes refreshments, lunch and any handouts.
  • Payment methods are stated on the event Booking Form. See below for link.

Language:

  • All presentations will be given in English.
