Licence key-related error message: The USB key is not present in USB port (for feature "LusasM_####") "Limited Version in Operation"

Typical message appearing in a Key Information dialog on opening a large model:

[SENTINELLM,STANDALONE,####]: The USB key is not present in USB port (for feature "")

                      1500 Degrees of Freedom

         If you wish to upgrade the software,
         to remove the restrictions or to
         obtain a new license please contact LUSAS

And/or the following messages in the Text Output pane in Modeller:

Error(s) occurred on validating key: [SENTINELLM, STANDALONE, ####
- The USB key is not present in USB port (for feature "LusasM_####")
- The USB key is not present in USB port (for feature "LusasM13")

And/or the following messages in the Text Output pane in Modeller:

LUSAS limited version in operation
Limits are:
Nodes 500
Elements 250
Loadcases 10
Points 100


Causes & links to solutions 

This error typically has one of the following causes:

  1. The "Teacher and training limits" option is ticked in the LUSAS Configuration Utility

  2. The USB Key drivers may need to be updated.

  3. The USB key has not been detected – ensure that the usb key is plugged directly into a USB socket on the PC (not into a usb hub) and then please reboot you machine and try again

  4. The USB port is faulty – try connecting another device, known to be working, to the USB port to check it

  5. The USB key may be faulty – try using the USB key on another PC that has LUSAS installed to confirm that the actual key is OK

  6. A Firewall may be blocking access to the key
